About our Technology Licensing Organization (TLO)
Tohoku University, through the office of the Intellectual Property Division, makes use of intellectual property in collaboration with Tohoku Technoarch Co., Ltd. (wide-area TLO), which has a proven history in technology transfer from the University to industry. The Intellectual Property Division assumes responsibilities for “acceptance of invention reports,” “review of ownership,” “preparation for filing,” “maintenance and administration,” “payment of consideration,” and “education of the University staffs on IP matters.” The University assigns operations to the TLO. Tohoku Technoarch Co., Ltd. assumes responsibilities for “evaluating the marketability and novelty of inventions,” “developing market,” and “initiating licensing activities.”
The assignment or licensing of the intellectual property rights of the University to business entities is essentially undertaken by Tohoku Technoarch Co., Ltd. Their scope of subject includes the patent rights, copyrights of programs, databases, materials, and know-how stipulated in the University`s rules of invention.
Tohoku Technoarch Co., Ltd. secures incentives for inventors, negotiates technology transfer agreements with business entities, and collects license fees for the University.
