Tohoku University accepts donations and contributions from companies and individuals to encourage, promote, and develop academic research and education.

How to Make a Donation

Complete and submit a donation form to a faculty head. Donations can be designated to specific research targets and researchers. .

After submitted the donation form, when the University made a decision, you will get an appropriate document with payment slip. Please use the payment slip to make donations.

Tax Deduction

In Japan,

Corporate tax law and income tax law provide preferential tax treatment for donations.

  • Donations made by corporate bodies are fully deductible and are treated as an allowable expense.
  • Donations made by individuals that exceed 5,000 yen are deductible from gross income (the limit is 40% of gross income).

In other countries,

Please consult the revenue office at your country for applicable preferential tax treatment.

Handling of Inventions/Intellectual Property Rights

Intellectual properties from academic research funded by donations cannot be assigned to or used by the donor. (Tohoku University Administrative Regulation on Donations - Article 5 Section 1.2)
