Endowed Chairs and Research Divisions

Tohoku University has “endowed chairs” and “endowed research divisions” funded by endowments from companies in order to enrich education and research at the University. Endowed chairs and endowed research divisions can be established in each area, i.e. cultural, social, and natural science.

In the programs of the endowed chairs and endowed research divisions, visiting professors and others are invited from outside the University to perform educational and research activities. Salary, research expenses, and travel expenses are all covered by the endowment. The period for holding endowed chairs and endowed research divisions is 2-5 years, although renewal is possible.

Application

The procedure for applying to establish endowed chairs or endowed research divisions is the same as that used for donations. After approval at the chairs meeting of each faculty member, permission from the president is sought.

Complete and submit a donation form to a faculty head. Donations can be designated to specific research targets and researchers.
