When a joint invention with Tohoku University is conceived
University staff members are obliged to disclose all inventions to the University.
When a joint invention involving University staff is conceived, please contact the Intellectual Property Division of the University, or inform your co-inventor(s) that the invention should be disclosed.
An invention made by a staff member is basically considered to be owned by the University.
The Intellectual Property Screening Committee will make a final decision as to whether the University may be assigned the patent rights and whether the invention has become vested in the University. The committee meets, as a general rule, once a month. Determination of the ownership of a patent might take more than one month after disclosure of the invention. Therefore, contacting the Intellectual Property Division at an early stage would be appreciated.
