University-Launched Ventures and Start-ups
In collaboration with networks inside and outside the University, our liaison staff supports business startups and venture businesses while utilizing the University's research results. The section provides consultation to the University staff and students who are thinking of starting or creating businesses as a way to put the research results into practical use or to return outcomes to society by using the same.

- Promotion and collaborative support with networks inside and outside the University
- Matching and exchange support
University-Launched ventures are categorized into the following four types.
Type 1: Technology transfer through patents
Companies that were created on the basis of patents owned by the University or its staff
Type 2: Technology transfer through methods other than patents
Companies that were created on the basis of research results obtained at the University or through techniques mastered at the University (know-how, copyright, etc.)
Type 3: Human resources transfer
Companies that the University`s teaching staffs/technicians. or students either founded or took part in founding; however, if they are retired teaching staffs/technicians, or students who graduated more than one year ago then those cases are exempt from this category
Type 4: Investment
Companies in which the University or TLO invested when it was founded, but excluding a company in which investment by third parties, such as existing companies, exceeds 50% of the total amount invested
(Note) Tohoku University does not invest in university-launched venture businesses.
