Tohoku University and AIST Conclude Agreement to Strengthen Collaboration and Hold Partnership Enhancement Symposium

2026.05.28

Tohoku University and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) concluded a new agreement on May 27, 2026, to further develop their collaboration under their existing comprehensive partnership agreement. Through this agreement, the two institutions will strengthen collaboration in three fields in which they both have particular strengths: quantum technology, materials, and semiconductors, MEMS, and spintronics. They will also promote the mutual use of advanced research facilities and infrastructure, including the 3 GeV high-brilliance synchrotron radiation facility NanoTerasu and the quantum–classical hybrid computing platform ABCI-Q.
In conjunction with the signing of the agreement, a symposium was held to promote enhanced collaboration. At the symposium, experts from both institutions gave presentations on the significance and future potential of strengthened collaboration in the three fields. Participants from AIST and related companies also expressed their expectations for the further expansion of collaboration between Tohoku University and AIST.
