Intellectual Property When Joint Invention is Created

Our university processes the patent application in accordance with the following policy:

When our faculty member creates an invention and wishes to file a patent application, he/she is required to submit an invention disclosure. Submission of the invention disclosure is an obligation of all faculty members.

The same applies for joint inventions. If you create a joint invention with our faculty member(s), you may contact our Intellectual Property Division yourself or ask the faculty member(s) to submit the invention disclosure to our Intellectual Property Division.

Our faculty member's invention will be considered as an employee invention in principle.

Whether the university accepts an assignment of right for the patent from the inventor and claims the ownership will be determined by the university's internal Intellectual Property Reviewing Committee. Because it may take more than a month from the submission of invention disclosure to the decision of Committee, please submit the invention disclosure as soon as the invention is created.
