Research on the metamorphic development and pluripotency of cells in fish

We have been investigating the molecular control mechanisms of fish metamorphosis and pluripotency of embryonic cells using flounder and fugu as important species in aquaculture, and also zebrafish and medaka of model organisms. We recently discovered that the Nodal pathway, which is known to control the sidedness of internal organs, fixes the laterality of flounder eye-sidedness. In the study of pluripotency, we established transgenic lines in which pluripotency of cells can be monitored by GFP fluorescence.
