Bone Regenerative Therapy by Octacalcium Phosphate (OCP) Collagen Composites



Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) collagen composite (OCP/Col) is a new bone regenerative material, which is consisted of synthetic OCP and porcine atelocollagen. OCP/Col surpassed bone regenerative properties of existing bone substitutes, and achieved efficient bone regeneration without cell transplantation and exogenous osteogenic cytokines. It has excellent resorbability, moldability, operability, and high cost performance without complicated handling or management system. Preclinical studies and the sponsor-initiated multicenter clinical trial have been completed successful. As a medical device for the bone defect in oral and maxillofacial region, the sales of OCP/Col are planned to commence in fiscal 2018.

Targeted Application(s)/Industry

As a medical devise of bone regenerative material, expansion of application in various bone defect (orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, etc.) and overseas expansion would be expected. Furthermore, recently developed combination product based on OCP/Col would provide a therapeutic alternative for difficult bone defects or urgent surgery.
