Nonlinear Aeroelastic and Multibody Dynamic Analysis for Floating Wind Turbine and Next-Generation Aircraft

NEXT
PREV
概要

Floating wind turbine and next-generation aircraft have high-aspect-ratio blade and wing that undergo nonlinear aeroelastic deformation. We have developed a nonlinear aeroelastic analysis framework with absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF). This nonlinear aeroelastic deformation is coupled with multibody dynamics. We are also developing a novel analysis framework for this coupling dynamics.

従来技術との比較

By using the nonlinear analysis method proposed in this study, it is possible to handle the reduction in flutter speed due to large deformations and the coupled phenomenon of deformation and flight behavior that cannot be captured using conventional linear analysis methods.

特徴・独自性
  • Straightforward nonlinear structural analysis method that does not use any rotational coordinates
  • Highly efficient unsteady fluid calculation method for large deformations
  • Multibody dynamics that captures the relative motion between bodies, such as rotating blades and control surfaces

Novel CoCr-based superelastic metallic biomaterial with low Young's modulus

NEXT
PREV
特徴・独自性
  • General metallic biomaterials, such as stainless steels and conventional CoCr alloys, show a high Young's modulus ten times higher than that of human bones. This is an unfavored feature because it causes the so-called "stress shielding effect" when they are used as implants. β-type Ti alloys have a relatively lower Young's modulus, but they come with a compromise of low wear resistance. The current novel CoCr-based alloys are a breakthrough; they exhibit both a low Young's modulus similar to human bones and a high wear and corrosion resistance. Moreover, they exhibit superelasticity with a huge recoverable strain over 17%, also showing promise as shape memory alloys.
実用化イメージ

It is the first time that a low Young's modulus, a high corrosion and wear resistance, and a superior superelastic behavior are simultaneously obtained in a single material. The current novel CoCr-based alloys are promising for biomedical applications such as total hip or knee joint replacements, bone plates, spinal fixation devices, and vascular stents.

Novel high-throughput screening systems for new antibiotics targeting bacterial virulence factors

NEXT
PREV
特徴・独自性
  • Chemotherapy toward bacterial infection, which dates back to the discovery of penicillin, opened up the golden era of antibiotics. Thereafter, various clinically important antibiotics were introduced into the clinic, and hence serious bacterial infectious diseases were eradicated. However, this ephemeral hope has been disappearing due to the emergence of antibiotic resistant pathogens toward every new antibiotics launched into the clinic, such as multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). To combat these life-threatening pathogens, there is a pressing need to develop new antibiotics. However, new antibiotics discovered in the future will be nullified by development of resistance to these antibiotics, since their targets are essential for bacterial survival. From this aspect in which inhibitors of the essential functions inevitably select resistant mutants, bacterial virulence could be a fascinating target for developing new antibiotics, because virulence attenuators are thought to be less likely to generate resistance. We focus on a novel protein translocation system, Tat, since this system appears to be involved in several aspects of bacterial virulence and is not present in mammalian cells, and iron-metabolism-associated system as novel targets for development of their inhibitors. We hope to conduct collaborative research with a willing company for a practical application of this technology in industry.

特徴・独自性
  • In recent year, facing the age of nanoscale engineering, the new technologies of device, circuit and architecture supported by novel physical guidance principles are highly expected, just as the similar situation as the predawn of semiconductor technology when Bardeen and Shockley discovered the secret of transistors. Therefore, in our research approach, the architectures, circuits, devices and CAD design tools for nanoscale LSI are systematically investigated in the following three main research subjects.
  • 1. Study on nanoscale device and circuit
  • Aiming at the nanoscale silicon semiconductor integrated circuit, we are mainly working on the following directions for new devices and circuits:
  • ①Analysis for novel physical phenomenon based on nanostructural effects
  • ②Device and circuit technology with new operating principle
  • ③Restraint technology for increasing variability of device characteristics
  • ④Architecture and circuit technology for robust information processing
  • 2. Study on the 3-dimention-structual device and circuit
  • The elementary element of recent LSI with planar-structural devices is coming close to the physical limitation of scaling. In order to break the limit and sustain the evolution of future LSI performance, we have started the research on the novel 3-dimension-structural devices and circuits.
  • 3. research on wireless integrated circuit (IC) based on information transmission
  • The ultracompact lightweight wireless IC is one of essential technologies for realizing the ubiquitous society which has the network available in anywhere, at anytime and from any surrounding items. For example, the IC tags for receiving information with reading function are getting close to the practical applications. In our laboratory, aiming at the automatic operating wireless IC with embedded power supply, we are systematically working on the following directions:

特徴・独自性
  • Aiming at developing practical quantum optimization technology known as quantum annealing, we are working on exploring basic technologies that can overcome the limitations and applications in collaboration with multiple companies. The advantage of the method is that it can be used simply by formulating a cost function that draws the goal to be optimized once, but we are not limited to the original method. We extend it by considering a much easier problem, sequential optimization by learning, black box optimization, etc.. In particular, it is being applied to automated driving, logistics in factories, and evacuation guidance during disasters.

Oral Biofilm Functional Analysis: from “What Are They?" to “What Are They Doing?"

NEXT
PREV
特徴・独自性
  • A large number of microorganisms inhabit the oral cavity, such as the teeth, gingiva and tongue, in the form of oral biofilm. The oral cavity forms an ecosystem where the host (humans) and parasites (microorganisms) coexist. Disruption of the balance of this oral ecosystem leads to dental caries, periodontal diseases and oral malodor, and even deterioration of dental materials.
  • Using leading-edge techniques of anaerobic experimental systems including original and unique devices, as well as the notion of "omics" such as metagenomics and metabolomics, we conduct research on oral biofilm functions. Knowledge of oral biofilms, from "what are they?" to "what are they doing?", enables us to address their control, that is, prevention of and therapy for oral biofilm-associated diseases.

特徴・独自性
  • Peptides are formed through the enzymatic actions in living organisms, but difficulty exists to form peptide by non-enzymatic actions. Here we report the success of peptide formation under anhydrous, high P and T conditions. We were successful to form 11-mer of glycine and 5-mer of alanine. They are important constituents of spider silk, which is a candidate of next generation of carbon fibers. Therefore, our techniques have potentials to apply making new carbon fibers without biotechnology.

  • The high-temperature strength in Co-based alloys is inferior to that in Ni-based superalloys due to no available ’ phase for strengthening Co-based alloys. We have found a new intermetallic compound Co3(Al,W) ’ phase, and /’ Co-Al-W-based wrought and cast alloys show excellent high-temperature strength. The /’ Ir-Al-W-based alloys are also available for high-temperature uses at over 1100 °C. The Co-based alloys also have good wear resistance. For example, friction stir welding (FSW) of high-softening-temperature materials such as steels and titanium alloys is possible using a Co-based alloy tool.
